Scam and Fraud Protection

When it comes to your money and your home, you can never be too careful.

Scammers are constantly finding new ways to victimize and target homeowners. At RoundPoint Mortgage Servicing LLC, we want to make sure you have all the tools you need to protect yourself and your home.

Your financial security is our top priority, and being informed is the first line of defense. Here are some tips that can help protect you and your financial information:

1. Verify Communications: Be cautious of unsolicited emails, calls, or messages requesting personal or financial information. You can always confirm the legitimacy of any suspicious communication by reaching out directly to one of our customer service agents or verifying the communication by checking your Servicing Digital account. RoundPoint will never ask for this information in an automated call. If we call you, we will clearly identify ourselves.

Scammers will often use methods to hide the origin of their communications, such as call spoofing (where the call appears to come from a trusted number), phishing from a similar or copied email domain, or claiming listings fraudulently on the internet in hopes that a customer will call the wrong number with questions.

Be Careful: Scammers may attempt to provide false payoff instructions to divert funds funds—even creating altered payoff quotes! Confirm you are using the correct wiring instructions prior to sending funds by reviewing your billing statement or by visiting our website.

If you have any suspicion that the correspondence is coming from a source other than RoundPoint, contact our Customer Care Team IMMEDIATELY at 877.426.8805.

2. Secure Your Information: Always use secure channels when communicating with any entity that manages financial information. Avoid sharing sensitive information, such as bank account information or social security details, through unsecured means like email or text messages. The RoundPoint Mobile App and our Servicing Digital online platforms are both safe, secure ways to communicate sensitive financial information to us.

3. Confirm ACH and Wire Transfer Instructions: Before processing any wire transfers related to your mortgage, be sure to verify the instructions and destination. Scammers may attempt to provide false instructions to divert funds—even creating altered payoff quotes! If someone asks you to send your mortgage payments to an individual or any party other than RoundPoint, or if you are unsure if the recipient is a legitimate RoundPoint agent, end the call and contact us immediately.

You should also be wary if someone urges you to use an unfamiliar payment method. For example, the scammer may pressure you to use specific debit/credit cards or even wire transfers from MoneyGram to Western Union. Scammers also enjoy using gift cards and reloadable cards (like iTunes or Google Play). RoundPoint will never require use of any of these alternative payment methods.

We recommend using Servicing Digital, our safe and secure online platform, to make one-time or set up recurring payments.

4. Stay Informed:
Knowledge is your best defense. Stay informed about the latest mortgage fraud trends and common scams. Regularly check official sources, such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), for updates and alerts. Freddie Mac also has an excellent resource to identify so-called “red flags” that could be indicative of scams.

5. Report Suspicious Activity Promptly:
If you encounter any suspicious activity or believe you may have been targeted by fraud, report it immediately to us and relevant authorities. Timely reporting can help prevent further damage.

If you feel as though you may have been contacted by a scammer or fallen victim to a mortgage scam, the best thing you can do is to log into your Servicing Digital account or contact our Customer Care Team IMMEDIATELY at 877.426.8805. Representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET.
